Why do I need a Kansas unemployment benefits account?

In order to file an initial application for unemployment benefits or to file a weekly claim for unemployment benefits on the GetKansasBenefits.gov website, you must first create and login with a unique user account that is associated to you, the claimant. Without an account, you will be unable to file for benefits online.

What information do I need to set up an account?

You will need to provide the following information and/or unique identifiers when creating your account:

  • Your first name and last name
  • Your Social Security number
  • Your telephone number
  • Your email address
  • A user name
  • A password
  • A PIN (personal identification number)

What is a user name? What is a password?

You must create a unique user name and password so the online system will be able to recognize you. Be sure to make note of your user name and password because you will need to use them to file your initial application for benefits as well as your weekly claim for benefits.

Your user name and password must be at least six characters long. You may use numbers, letters and symbols in your user name password. Your user name and password should be something you can remember and others cannot guess.

During the account process, you will be asked to enter your password twice and to provide us with your email address. An email address is required for security purposes in case you forget your password or PIN (personal identification number). It is important that you never reveal your user name and password to anyone.

What is a PIN (personal identification number)?

The online unemployment benefits system requires you to set up a four-digit PIN (personal identification number). Your PIN identifies you to the system. Your PIN, along with your Social Security number, is your electronic signature. This helps prevent another person from obtaining information about your claim or claiming your unemployment benefits.

Select a PIN that you will remember, but one that is unusual enough so that others will not guess it.

Your PIN can only be numbers:

  • DO NOT use letters (alpha characters)
  • DO NOT use # or * signs or other symbols
  • DO NOT use numbers in sequences like 1234
  • DO NOT use the same numbers like 1111 or 2222
  • DO NOT give your PIN to anyone, including your spouse

What if I have forgotten my user name?

What if I have forgotten my password and/or PIN?

If you have forgotten your password and/or PIN or you believe someone knows your password or PIN, you should reset your password and PIN immediately. To reset your password and PIN, go to the account login page and select Click here to reset your password and PIN. You will be required to provide your user name and your email address. After submitting this information, we will send an email to that address which will contain a temporary password and PIN. You can then log into the unemployment benefits system with your user name and the temporary information. You will be required to change your password and PIN as soon as you log in.

You may also change your password and PIN at any time by simply logging in and selecting the Change Your Information option.

How do I access the online unemployment benefits system?

How do I change my address or other personal information?
