Important Message about Lost Wages Assistance Program (LWAP)

If you submitted an unemployment insurance claim for any of the weeks ending Aug. 1, 2020 through Sept. 5, 2020, you may be eligible for additional funds under the Lost Wages Assistance program. The Lost Wage Assistance program is funded by FEMA to provide $300 per week to supplement unemployment benefits to eligible claimants.

For KDOL to determine your eligibility to receive these funds, you must first self-certify that you are unemployed or partially unemployed because your work or workplace was directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. When you log in to your getkansasbenefits.gov account, you will be directed to the LWA self-certification screen. There, you will be directed to click ‘yes’ or ‘no’ regarding eligibility due to COVID-19. You will only have to self-certify once. You can also call our Unemployment Contact Center to self-certify with one of our customer service representatives. KDOL recommends that you complete your LWA self-certification as soon as possible.

Second, your calculated weekly benefit amount must be at least $100 from specific unemployment compensation programs and you do not report wages greater than or equal to your weekly benefit amount. For a listing of these programs, click here.

Regular Unemployment Compensation, Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE), Unemployment Compensation for Ex-service members (UCX), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Extended Benefits (EB), Short-Time Compensation (STC) (also known as the Shared Work Program in Kansas), Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA), and Payments under the Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program
